A couple.

I had Norman Rockwell in mind when I made this fellow. And the lady was created using the mold I had made of my Peddler Doll head.
Their heads were sculpted from clay abd then a mold was made and filled with Durhan Water Putty. Their bodies wire covered with felt including their fingers. Clothes designed and made by me.

Peddler Doll

I entered this one at my first doll show and she won a blue ribbon....oh my was I excited. She and her costume was designed and made by me as were all the baskets and purses she sells.

Two doll house size dolls.

Here are two 6 inch dolls I made when I belonged to a Miniature  Club ...a farmer and another man.

A couple of young boys.

Again I sculpted a head
and made a mold I used
on these two guys. I made
their clothes from my own
patterns....made the shoes
and knitted the red sox.
Their hands are covered
with ultra suede and the
fingers are wired and
stitched individually. I
embroidered the insignia
on the sailor boy...also
carved the boat.

Moving along

The next 5 dolls are about
eight and a half inches tall.
All their heads are from a
mold I made from a head I
had sculpted from clay.
The bodies are felt with
wire armature. All the embroidery
was done by me and I knitted the
sweater ....also wove the basket
and hat.

teens

These gals are 8". I painted the
face of the one on the left...and
the one on the right has a burlap
body.....guitar carved by me out
of balsa wood.

and some more

Two of these lassies have hand painted faces.

more dolls

I continued making more dolls off and on.
They will be displayed on here more or less
in the order I made them...working up to the time I stopped making dolls up until recently.
There is a push pin there to show the size of these. I did not make the rocking horse

Almost A Year Later

The thing I don't like about blogs are the order one writes in them. By rights this should be ABOVE the pictures of my doll work. In order for this or any blog one needs to start at the bottom and read UP. But that's the way it it...>S<

I've had a request by my son to record all the crafts I've done over the years....so why not in a blog.....so here I go.

I thought the best way for me to do this is to do each craft separately, at least for a start. So I'm beginning with my 'doll making' history.

Dolls have always been in my life off and on from as far back as I remember. I played with them as a child....then I didn't really connect with them again until my daughters came along. In the late 1950s I built a doll house for them so I needed dolls to put in there. My first dolls really weren't to scale as I didn't know about such things at that time. They were just little kids. So above I start by showing some of my first dolls. These are wire armature dolls covered with hand sewn felt bodies. They are about 5" tall. Their faces are embroidered.. I knitted the sox and carved the little Dutch shoes. I also designed and hand sewed their clothing.
